Unique Detail: Vintage Postcards

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE anything vintage.  Doesn’t matter what decade, what style, I love it all.  The other thing I love more than anything?  Traveling.  I mean, who doesn’t love visiting places both near and far?  If you’re with me on either of these things (or both!) this one’s for you!  To bring an element of vintage and the allure of new and exciting places, incorporate VINTAGE POSTCARDS as either save the dates, escort cards, or even as a guest book.

Home Sweet Home

For the postcard design, focus on your big day: location, theme, color scheme.  Obviously, if you are having a destination wedding, you can use a postcard from the location to let your guests know it’s time for vacation.  But even if you are staying home, a vintage postcard from your home city is a fun keepsake and a way to remind your guests they still get to take a vacation for the day while at your fabulous soiree.

Just A Bit of Flair

You can also find postcards that work with your wedding theme and color scheme- if you are using Parisian influences, why not beautiful Eiffel Tower cards?  Or for a summer wedding with bright colors, a tropical postcard adds a festive dimension.  If you want to go even further, you could have a vintage travel themed wedding and use postcards from all over the world!

Bonjour!

For save the dates, you will obviously need the guests’s actual addresses, and you can easily obtain vintage-y stamps.  But if you are going to use the cards as escort cards, include the name and table number on the address lines.  For the message, either have a stamp made, use a handwriting-like font, or (only if you are very dedicated) handwrite each postcard with a unique message either informing your guests that you’d like them to join you on your day, or thanking them for attending.  To use the postcards as a guest book, leave a stack of various postcards, all stamped with your new Mr.&Mrs. Address out with pens and a mailbox so your guests can ‘mail’ you a note.  Your wedding planner can put them in the mail after the reception, so you and your new spouse can read them all after coming home from the honeymoon.

Aloha!

No matter how you choose to incorporate the vintage postcards, it is a sweet and personal touch to add to your day and makes a great keepsake for both you and your guests! Danke! Grazie!  Aloha! Bon Voyage! Arrividerci!  Adios!  Wish you were here!

DOWN ON THE FARM: Vintage Rustic Wedding Theme Inspiration

We love love love the idea of taking a rustic wedding venue, such as a converted barn on a farm or a vineyard, or simply out in the fields themselves, and juxtaposing it with softer, vintage feeling décor to create a scene that is both simple and stunningly elegant.  To start, one must find the perfect location.  And boy does New England have a wide array of choices- from vineyards to actually functioning farms, to spaces that have since been converted to restaurants and event space.  Even though at first glance they may seem too country and artless, with the right delicate touches, they can be transformed into a charming, rustic chic wonderland!

First of all, you need to get in touch with the farm itself: many of these places, being working sites rather than just venues, offer fresh food grown on site, or in the case of those turned into restaurants, can cater your events with locally grown and often organic food.  In the case of vineyards, house wines are a delicious and convenient perk to go with your location choice.  We love the idea of using goods either grown and made on site or locally in your food and beverage choices- it’s truly a great way to bring a unique touch to what can otherwise be an overlooked aspect of your day.

But even more fun than the food and wine are the decorations- we think working for a vintage inspired, delicate feel makes a great contrast to the raw, earthy feel of fields and barns.  To keep with the feel of the rustic, wildflower bouquets and centerpieces are a great way to add some color and lightness.  Queen Anne’s Lace makes for a delicate feel and bright colors like cornflowers, New England Astor and poppies make them really pop!  Use not just mason jars, but all sorts of funky glass jars and bottles for table pieces.  When doing a vintage style wedding, we think that mixing and matching really makes it feel authentic, and even better, it makes your décor uniquely yours!  Antique lace and delicate floral pattern table linens give not only texture, but added delicacy on the table.  Finally, actual antique china and silver, or even just spindly, patterned, eclectic table and glass ware choices truly finish the feel of vintage but chic and elegant table that will leave your guests delighted!

Other wonderful décor touches that we love for country weddings are small white twinkly lights for a romantic and ethereal lighting after dark.  It also just feels so festive!  Having hay bales positioned for seating keeps with the country feel, but you can also drape them in vintage-y sheets (try going to your local thrift shop) to keep guests from having hay stuck to their bums.  You can also use chalkboards to write out your menu choices, or even just to have cute and personalized messages and drawings.  You could even leave one blank with some chalk for your friends and family to leave love notes!

These are just a few ideas that we think would make for a wonderful feel of simplified grace, enjoy!

Inspiration Board: Ski Challet

Winter is almost over and spring is around the corner, so get in that last ski weekend and start to break out the pastel sweaters!

The local Brides magazines have a feature on weddings inspired by children’s books – so if I were to equate this with a book it would be a wintry romance, or the wardrobe adventure of  The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

The inspiration for this board started with the top left photo of the bed and breakfast covered in snow. It just looks serene, making it picture perfect for wedding inspiration.

If snow will accompany your wedding day, soft hues of pastel pink, blue, and silver will accent the surroundings. With the color palette a 1920s vintage feel creates a depth to the decor that offers an almost swanky feel. Think feathers, sheath dresses, sleek hair, gin, and a live band. Sounds like a swinging good time!

And if you choose, make that 1920s with a modern ski lift…

Cheers,
__Jessica
