Inspiration in the weeds

We love pulling inspiration from everywhere – even weeds! Somehow billy balls came to mind this morning, and my genuine surprise to learn that they are actually the shoots of a weed. Just another demonstration that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What’s Hot: Winter Bridal Accessories

Brr it sure is cold out there. Winter is officially in full swing, and being outside for any period of time is painful, let alone in that perfect strapless dress you’ve had your eyes on since you were a little girl. For a winter bride, you can buy a wedding gown made with warmer fabric like crushed velvet or Duchesse satin. If that isn’t an option, or you want to wear a summer fabric there are plenty of other fashionable alternatives.

Add a pair of opera length gloves, a shawl, a shrug, a hooded cloak or even a cute jacket to your beautiful dress. Not only will you be warm, but you will look cute at the same time! These accessories can be white, or you can add a little color. More and more brides are staring to add some color to their ensemble to match their bridesmaids. You could a ribbon or sash, or add a shawl in your bridesmaids color.

Curl up on the couch with some hot cocoa and look at all your different wedding day options. Hope this helps to inspire your winter wedding look.

Cheers!

Dress to impress!

Bridesmaids, how would you like a dress that would not only fit your body type but also be able to chose a color that would flatter your body? Thankfully, you are in luck! Weddings all over the country are trying this new fashion. Not only does it show each bridesmaids individuality, but also brings color to the wedding.

This would be a perfect style for later spring, summer, and early fall.

The first idea might be too contemporary for bridesmaids in a traditional wedding.  However, there is a solution!  A great way to add creativity, but still keep the traditional style of the wedding would be to dress each bridesmaid the same style and let them choose their own dress color – in relation to the wedding theme.

These colors would be great for late summer, fall.

Brides, when helping your bridesmaids choose a color for their dress use a color wheel. Color wheels show which colors look best together. Be sure to use colors on the same side of the wheel for best results – colors on opposite of the wheel will clash.

Wedding Table Ideas Anyone?

Theknot.com has some great ideas from some of the most precious weddings.  Even something so simple as table numbers can bring originality to your reception.   When conducting a large or even small wedding, there will be many guests that are not aware of and your fiancé’s romantic, cute, quirky, or even inside secrets.  So, show them!  With the idea of table numbers the bride and groom are able to share their story and help their guests to grasp a better understanding of their relationship.  Many couples around the country had decided to use original table numbers that are significant in their relationship, here are a couple great ideas that other brides and grooms had across the country…

A bride and groom from New Hampshire decided to use street signs,

each of the street signs used on every table had a special meaning to the couple.

Chalkboards as table numbers are a cute idea for brides and grooms in the educational field.

The guest are immediately drawn to what is important in the couples lives.

Gathering old black and white photos of both you and your fiancé

from when you were younger is adorable and another way to distinguish each table.

Can’t decide on what flowers to have at your wedding? Have them all!

By placing each table centerpiece with a different flower you are able to have all of your favorites.

A good way to show both yours and your fiancés fun and outgoing side

is to make your own table numbers.  This couple from Kentucky took different snap

snots of them holding each table number.

Personalize your own table numbers and have fun with them! :)

Enjoy,

Inspiration Board: Teal for Two

An inspiration for some great summer colors!

Teal is a popular color because of its strong statement, and pairing it with purple can make for a dark color palette. But when you add a butter cream yellow it becomes sophisticated a dreamy (just like that fiance of your!).

The trick to utilizing dark colors in your wedding design is to balance dark colors with light in a proportion that works for your venue. If your venue is a vast white space, the bold colors for table linens will help bring your eyes into the space, so use the light colors as accents (napkins, lighting, and the trim on the escort cards). For rooms with dark paneling, integrate the yellow throughout the decor and accent with purple and teal (lighting on the walls or dance floor, centerpieces, or the favors placed at each setting).

Inspiration Board: English Garden

A garden wedding is so romantic. Thinking about it has brightened my Wednesday and hopefully it warms yours as well!

If your wedding  is outside it is easier to achieve this look, but if you are looking for garden accents for your indoor reception then try:

  • Covering your escort card table with moss, then add a large urn with organically styled flowers
  • Rod-iron accents like an arbor at the entrance to the reception
  • Topiary centerpieces or mini topiaries as favors
  • Floral wreaths at the doors of the ceremony or reception
  • Laurel wreath or similar motif to your stationery
  • Lavender sachets for favors

Any other ideas for achieving an indoor garden?

Unique Bridesmaid Gifts

Bridesmaid gifts can be difficult to find, especially when you are trying to find something that represents your appreciation for all they have done. While you can never truly tell them how much their support means to you, you can offer a thoughtful token as a special thank you.

Things to Consider

Keep in mind the emotional support, time, energy, travel, and (often forgotten) financial commitment your bridesmaids have made to you and your wedding. These women have planned and hosted parties, taken your weepy calls, and reassured your every worry. Your bridesmaids have purchased things from matching headbands to multiple airline tickets to share in the multiple aspects leading up to your big day – so remembering this will help you select the right gift.

Two other things to keep in mind: purchase something they would love to have and find a way to make this gift personal. Personal can mean monogram, but it more accurately means something that reflects a bridesmaid’s personality and/or interests.

Options

{ Monogrammed Vera      |      charm      |      gloves }

These are great bridsmaid gifts for smaller budgets. The small Vera Bradley duffel is a perfect gym bag and the monogram is a nice touch (I have the same pink Vera as this photo from MCC!). For the bridesmaid who enjoys jewelry, consider a charm – on either a necklace or for her charm bracelet. If there are any sorority ladies in the group, consider giving a charm of a sorority-related symbol. And for those Boston bridesmaids, beautiful gloves are always appreciated!

{ Veuve Cliquot champagne }

A graceful gesture would be a delivery, of almost any kind, to each of the bridesmaid’s home either a few weeks before or shortly after the wedding. Who wouldn’t want to be surprised with a fabulous bottle of champagne?! Plan ahead for this kind of gift and never give any sort of liquid gift to your bridal party over the wedding – with increased airport security your beautiful gift could become a burden.

{ wine tasting  |  Museum of Fine Art }

The bridesmaid who has everything would appreciate an experience more than something tangible, and these items are great. Tickets to the best concert of the year, a membership to her favorite museum, wine tasting, or a cooking class will give them something to enjoy and remember.

{ dress }

One last suggestion… Thanks to a modernization of bridal-thought and couture bridesmaid dresses are more fashionable than ever. Yet even the best intentioned bride must understand that very few bridesmaids will ever wear their dresses again. Count it off to personal style – some people don’t like bright apple green.

Considering that your best friends will purchase the dress, without a peep of dissention, a gift card to their favorite store is a wonderful gift. They will have far more use out of the dress and will credit you when they wear it.

And remember – it is a gift…so paying for wedding expenses, or giving a gift that you require them to use for the wedding, is kind but not a gift. After all, have you worn the earrings that match your lavender bridesmaid dress?

Cheers,
__ Jessica
